30th April 2009,

Well it's a very long time since an update has been done here, mainly taken over by Facebook really. but I thought I had better do one just to keep it all running.

Things are forever changing, after doing all the hydraulic training in the US with Navtec and starting up the company in Australia, which had finally taken off we hit the GFC and the head office has decided to close the doors of Lewmar and Navtec in Australia. The good side of it is I come out with a lot more knowledge and skills.

On the sailing side of things we are going to focus on the F18 class next season. We have been doing a few regattas this past season with some good results and happy with our result at the Nationals. Next season we plan to get the guru coach Traks Gordon to put in some time on the water with us and work on a top 10 result in the next Worlds.

Well that's about it for now

27th July 2008,

Sorry the updates have been slow but it's just been one very hectic period.

The trip to the USA was a great success Navtec HQ was a great learning experience and the sailing in Newport was FUN, something that has been missing from my offshore sailing lately. Missing fun has made me take a step back from yacht racing lately and I think will continue for the next season with my sailing being focused on cat racing.

The Newport to Bermuda race was great fun. Sailing on Shockwave 5 (RP80) that has just been bought by Andrew Short and is on route to Australia as we speak. The race was a slow one but pretty much a rhumb line race. With zero water coming over the deck and only the 1st night needing wet weather gear just to stay warm it was a great race. The race was very much a VMG race and a small bit of upwind on the last day. reaching Bermuda we found that the boat we were racing was not the boat we thought it was and we did better then we thought beating a lot of A class crews and rockstars, not bad for a bunch of punters that only stepped onto the boat 1 day before the race. In Bermuda I had great joy in catching up with some old friends from the German team and from back home.

Now back in Australia it's been very busy setting up the warehouse for the new Navtec stock that is on the way as well we have the Sydney Boat Show coming up, this means new show stands so busy designing and setting them up. Once this boat show has been and gone it's into getting Navtec up and running properly and to start working at getting it going.

On the sport side of things a trip to Thredbo has been great. Snowboarding could be built more and more into the weekends over the winter period. I hope more to come over August. No trips to Southport, Hamo or Airlie this winter.

28th May 2008,

Work work work. That's all life has been about for the past few months. The Sanctuary Cove Boat Show has been and gone as a great success. After all the hard work I was only able to be there for the first day then had to race back onto the plane to head home to sort out another major project for the Beijing Olympics.

Heading off to the USA on the 8th June to go and see the guys at Navtec HQ. I might fit in the Onion Patch Series and the Newport to Bermuda Race just for fun.

4th May 2008,

Next season I'll be getting back to my roots and will be campaigning an F18. Sailing when I can with Katie and any stand ins along the way while she is off on the Women's Match Race Tour.

25th April 2008,

The brand new web site is slowly getting up and running still more to come but we will see how I go with it.

The Bow Speech

Bowman (Jack): You want answers?

Crew Boss (Tom): I think I'm entitled to them.

Bowman: You want answers?

Crew Boss: I want the truth!

Bowman: You can't handle the truth! Son, we race on a boat that has head sails. And those head sails have to be set and doused by men with harnesses. Who's going to do it? You? You, Mr. Trimmer? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for that spin halyard and you curse the foredeck. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that spin halyard’s death, while tragic, probably won the race. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, wins races...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at the beer tent, you want me on that bow. You need me on that bow.

We use words like “gybe-set”, “Mexican”, “floater”...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent achieving something. You use 'em as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to an afterguard that race and win under the very mark rounding's I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide them! I'd rather you just said "thank you" and got me a rum drink. Otherwise, I suggest you go down below and pack a ‘chute. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

Crew Boss: Did you order the Samurai douse?

Bowman: (quietly) I did the job you sent me to do.

Crew Boss: Did you order the Samurai douse?

Bowman: YOU’RE GODDAMN RIGHT I DID!!!
